DESPARATE LITTLE TOWN ALBUM REISSUE: POSTED 29TH APRIL 2011

Reissue of a fine lost album, a collaboration between Holly Golightly & Dan Melchior that was originally released on Sympathy For The Record Industry Records from California, it’s been out of print for around eight years and so folk though it was about time that was put right.

Recorded in London and Californian in 1999 with long time friend and Holly collaborator of some note Bruce Brand on percussion, the album features 10 tracks, some of which you’ll know if you’ve seen Holly play in the last decade like "Directly From My Heart" & "Further On Up The Road"; here they’re given some warm and friendly re-workings.

Also out 9th May. Looks like it's time to quickly save up the old pocket money.

Available as a CD, to dowload and yep, on vinyl. Released on Damaged Goods.

NEW ALBUM OUT 29TH MARCH (UK/EU) & 30TH MARCH (US):
POSTED 18TH MARCH 2010

Holly and Lawyer Dave are back with their third album together as Holly Golightly & The Brokeoffs.

‘Medicine County’ was written and recorded on a farmhouse just outside Athens in Georgia and as Holly says it’s “peppier” than the last album, in fact there’s only one slow song on the whole album which is probably down to the fact that this time they had a lot longer to work on the songs and recording, their last album was recorded in the middle of a very long European tour over a week or two in Spain.

So what does it sound like? Choc-full of ghostly blues, gut-bucket slide guitar, with a smattering of ol’ time country. This is just the disc for conjuring up the spirit of weird old America.

Anyone with an interest or liking for the music of The Band, Son House, or Hank Williams, sung by Nancy and Lee, should certainly check it out!

Holly’s mum painted the cover, which adds to the warm home-spun appeal.

12 brand new songs including a cover of Wreckless Eric’s ‘Murder In My Mind’ and a guest appearance by Tom Heinl on ‘Blood On The Saddle’ (Tom wrote Holly’s Christmas track ‘Christmas Tree On Fire’)

Tracklisting:

1. Holly Golightly & The Brokeoffs - Forget It
2. Holly Golightly & The Brokeoffs - Two Left Feet

HOLLY ALBUM REISSUES: POSTED 15TH OCTOBER 2009

3 great Holly Golightly albums were rereleased earlier this year. All 3 were originally released on Sympathy For The Record Industry and have been unavailable for some time. Head over to www.damagedgoods.co.uk to order online.

Painted On CD/LP

This is a reissue of Holly Golightly’s third proper album which was originally released in 1997 on the Sympathy label in the USA, now finally available on digipak CD and 12” LP vinyl.

‘Painted On’ is one of Holly’s favourite albums and it features some of her regular live favourites including ‘A Length Of Pipe’ and ‘I Let My Daddy Do That’ which she now plays along with Lawyer Dave in her current incarnation as Holly Golightly & The Brokeoffs.

Up The Empire CD/LP

This is a reissue of Holly Golightly’s first ever live album which was originally released in 1998 on the Sympathy For The Record Industry label in the USA, now finally available on Digipak CD and 12” LP vinyl.

‘Up The Empire’ was Holly’s first live albums and it features thirteen tracks that was apparently recorded in the summer of 1997 at Bridgetown’s premier nightspot, The Empire Ballroom and features some of her regular live favourites she’s still playing today including ‘Won’t Go Out’ and ‘You Ain’t No Big Thing Baby’.

Down Gina's At 3 CD/2LP

‘Come on in, put your cigarettes out and have a dance’ kicks off this reissue of Holly Golightly’s second live album which was originally released in 2004 on CD only on the Sympathy For The Record Industry label in the USA, now finally available on a double 12” LP vinyl for the first time and dusted down for a Digipak CD.

‘Down Gina’s At 3’ was recorded at the start of their US tour in 2004 and released by the end of it!

This is pretty much the line-up which recorded Holly’s classic ‘Truly She Is None Other’ album and features Bruce Brand on Drums, Eric Stein on lead Guitar and Jack Lawrence on Bass. Ko And The Knockouts appear on the encore tracks.

Apparently just after the tape had run out there was a final encore and Jack White got up and did a stunning version of Louie Louie with the band. Never mind eh!

NEW ALBUM OUT NOW: POSTED 14TH OCTOBER 2008

There's a brand spanking new Holly Golightly & The Brokeoffs album out today 14th October 2008.

It's called, "Dirt Don't Hurt" and if you listen carefully, you may just be able to hear the mud on our shoes.

Released on our new U.S. label, Transdreamer for North America and on Damaged Goods for U.K. and Europe. And yes, there will absolutely is vinyl.

This particular project was recorded in the middle of our 50 date tour during the only break we had. That week found us in Gijon, Spain on the Northern coast. We chose to record there at an analog studio by the name of Circo Perotti which is outfitted with a lovely selection of vintage microphones and loads of ancient outboard treasures to play with. After wrangling with all the ghosts, goblins and gremlins that inhabit gear and studios of this nature, the record was completed in five days... which is one more day than we spent the last one, so it may seem a little over produced to some!

Available at www.damagedgoods.co.uk and www.transdreamer.com

HOLLY GOLIGHTLY AND THE BROKEOFFS ALBUM: POSTED 28 MARCH 2007

The "You Can't Buy A Gun When You're Crying" album is out on Monday April 2nd, on digipak CD and proper old vinyl.

This is a side project featuring Holly and Lawyer Dave. Brought to you courtesy of the influences of bourbon, brisket, ribs, Lead Belly, Howlin Wolf and by the cutting edge audio technology of the Victrola.

A couple of the tracks from forthcoming LP 'You Can't Buy A Gun When You're Crying' are now available for your delectation at www.myspace.com/hollygolightlyandthebrokeoffs or have a listen on the music section of this here site.

The album is being released by Damaged Goods and is available from their site.

PS The title of the album is apparently an actual law in the US of A. Quite sensibly so!

HOLLY GOLIGHTY & THE BROKEOFFS - NEW SPLIT 7": POSTED 11TH JULY 2007

This is a 4 track, split 7” (on clear or purple vinyl) featuring two tracks by Holly Golightly & The Brokeoffs, who as I’m sure you know by now are the dynamic duo of Holly Golightly and Lawyer Dave and two by The Stratford Sparrows a duo from Portland Oregon in the states.

Here’s what Holly & Dave had to say about their recordings for this single
(which are not on their recently released debut album ‘You Can’t Buy A Gun When You’re Crying’)

“Holly says to an inebriated Lawyer Dave, "Right, we've got to record two songs for
this split with The Stratford Sparrows. Right now."

The Lawyer tried his best to develop the film in his mind with the contaminated
chemicals still left in that dark room some would call a brain. He had spent the day
before "assembling" the two foot cubed box that would be his kick drum for the
upcoming tour and was in fact excited about the prospects of hearing it on tape.

"Alrighty then." saith Dave, "Let's git to it." After a brief reintroduction to the
tunes and a clumsy microphone setup the recording was underway. Shortly
thereafter, it was so.

"Well then, that was an adventure." Holly and Dave said in unison. And then there
was silence.”

The STRATFORD SPARROWS are from Portland, Oregon, started in June of 2006. The Rev. Joe alighted there from San Francisco. After making it though the many trials of life in the City of Roses, he began hearing the sounds of harmony vocals, clean Telecasters, and reverb. He obtained a recording
device and brought it back to the humble Stratford apartments.

He met the fair Miss Bryna in Japanese class and asked her to put her sweet voice to good use. She said yes and the hit making commenced.

Taking inspiration from classic country music, the mighty Willamette River, and the 100 year old building that houses them, the Stratford Sparrows made music all summer long. Rev. Joe called on his friend Holly and a record was born.
Every time Rev. Joe turns a knob or pushes a fader, the sounds in his head are approached.

This is a very special release for all of us here at Damaged Goods and we hope you enjoy it as much as we are right now.

Track Listing:

Holly Golightly & The Brokeoffs:
A1 I want to hug you, kiss you, squeeze you (til my arms fall off)
A2 No Big Thing

The Stratford Sparrows:
AA1 Why Me Lord?
AA2 The Christian Life
